Our verdict

For most above-ground pools, the Beatbot Sora 10 is the best choice: it cleans the floor, walls and waterline for up to 5 hours and Beatbot lists it for above-ground pools. For a small pool with a flat floor, the Aiper Scuba SE or WYBOT A1 does the floor for far less.

Above-ground pools have flat floors, short walls and vinyl liners, and you lift the robot out over the wall, so weight matters. We only included robots whose makers list above-ground pools. Rankings use published specs and our scoring method; we did not test them ourselves.

Floor-only or full cleaning?

Floor-only robots (Aiper Scuba SE, WYBOT A1, Dolphin E10) are cheaper and lighter, but you still brush the walls and waterline yourself. If your liner gets a scum line or green streaks on the walls, a wall-climbing robot (Sora 10, WYBOT C1 or B1) is worth the extra money.

What to check before buying

  • Floor shape. The WYBOT A1 needs a flat floor with slopes under 15°; the Aiper Scuba SE struggles on slopes.
  • Pool size. Small robots are rated for about 860 to 1,150 sq ft; check your pool's floor area.
  • Weight. You lift the robot over the wall. The Sora 10 weighs 18.7 lb; the Aiper Scuba SE about 7.5 lb.
  • Corded or cordless. The Dolphin E10 is corded, with a 40 ft cable and no battery. See cordless vs corded.

Prices

On October 16, 2026, the makers' stores listed the Sora 10 at $699 (on sale for $469), the WYBOT C1 at $569.99 (on sale for $399.99), the B1 at $399.99 (on sale for $334.93) and the A1 at $229.99 (on sale for $169.97). Prices change often.

Frequently asked questions

Can you use any robotic pool cleaner in an above-ground pool?

No. Check that the maker lists above-ground pools. Aiper's Scuba S1, X1 and X1 Pro Max, for example, are listed for in-ground pools only.

Do above-ground pools need wall cleaning?

Above-ground walls are short, but algae and a scum line still build up there. A robot that climbs walls and cleans the waterline saves brushing; floor-only robots leave that to you.

Will a robot damage my vinyl liner?

Robots designed for vinyl pools use soft brushes or rollers. Beatbot and WYBOT list vinyl among supported surfaces for the robots here. Keep brushes and wheels clean, as grit can mark a liner.

Comparison

Robotic vs Suction Pool Cleaners: Which Is Worth It?

Suction cleaners are cheap to buy but run on your pool pump; robots cost more but clean walls, filter their own debris and use little power. We compare cost, cleaning and upkeep.
